Starting a Business Is Exciting.
The Tax Mistakes Are Not.

Every year, new entrepreneurs make the same expensive errors — not because they're not smart, but because nobody gave them a straight answer at the start.

⚠️

Wrong Entity, Wrong Tax Bill

A sole prop making $80k is leaving thousands in self-employment tax on the table. An LLC that should be taxed as an S-Corp isn't. The structure you pick in month one follows you for years.

📅

Missed Deadlines & Surprise Penalties

Quarterly estimated taxes. Annual reports. Franchise fees. Nobody tells you about these until the IRS or your state sends a notice — with interest.

💸

Deductions You Didn't Know Existed

Home office. Vehicle. Health insurance. Retirement contributions. Self-employed entrepreneurs have access to powerful deductions — but only if you're set up to use them from day one.

📄

No Operating Agreement. No Protection.

Forming an LLC without an operating agreement is like building a house without a foundation. One dispute — with a partner, a client, or a bank — and the lack of documentation becomes your problem.

Right Fit. Wrong Fit.

This isn't for everyone. Here's how to know if First Year Formation is the right move for you right now.

This Is For You If...

  • You're starting or recently launched a self-employed business or side hustle
  • You're a 1099 contractor, freelancer, or gig worker ready to do this the right way
  • You want to know the right entity structure before you file your first return
  • You're tired of guessing and want a real answer from a real professional
  • You want your business set up to protect you — legally and financially

This Is NOT For You If...

  • You need tax preparation or IRS representation — those are separate services
  • You already have an established entity and an accountant on retainer
  • You're looking for generic advice you could find on Google
  • You want a free consultation — this is a paid, professional engagement

I'm an Enrolled Agent — the highest credential the IRS grants to tax professionals — and I've spent over 16 years helping self-employed people, 1099 contractors, LLC owners, and S-Corp operators navigate the tax code without getting burned.

I founded The Self-Employed Tax Company specifically to serve the people the big firms ignore: minority-owned businesses, freelancers, and first-generation entrepreneurs who deserve straight answers, not jargon.

I've taught tax strategy to over 60,000 subscribers on YouTube. First Year Formation is what I wish every one of them had done in month one.

Straight Answers.

What exactly are the "state fees" on top of the $350?
Every state charges a filing fee to register a business entity. These range from around $50 (Kentucky) to $500+ (Massachusetts). The fee depends entirely on your state and entity type. I charge nothing on top of what the state requires — it's passed through at cost. You'll know the exact amount before you book.
How long does the process take?
The intake form and initial consultation take about 30–45 minutes. State processing times vary — most states process LLC formations within 3–10 business days. Your Formation Blueprint is delivered within 2 business days of your session.
Do I need to be in California to work with you?
No. I work with clients across all 50 states, fully virtual. State-specific rules are handled based on where your business operates — not where I'm located.
Is this tax preparation?
No. First Year Formation is a business setup and compliance advisory service. Tax preparation — actually preparing and filing your 1040, Schedule C, or business return — is a separate engagement quoted after the formation is complete.
What if I already have an LLC but haven't done anything else?
That's actually a common situation and a good fit. If you have an entity but no EIN, no operating agreement, no tax roadmap, and no deduction strategy — this engagement covers all of that.
What happens after formation — can you handle my taxes going forward?
Yes. Many First Year Formation clients move into ongoing tax preparation, bookkeeping, or a planning retainer with The Self-Employed Tax Company. That conversation happens naturally after your formation is complete — never as a condition of this engagement.

Stop Guessing.
Start Building.

Your first year sets the foundation for everything that follows. Get it right.
